British Heritage – England, Wales, and more

Posted on: August 17, 2007

My petition seems to be going well. I am really interested in all the people who sign it and what kind of comments they make. Do you feel that this petition is a good idea? Why or why not? Leave comments.

To reiterate, this petition is about encouraging people in the US to look a little closer at their heritage. Everyone can say they’re proud about Ellis Island, but what do they REALLY know about their families or where they came from?

Scots frequently celebrate with festivals, and the Irish… well, they are legendary. England and Wales are often overlooked because of their gregarious cousins, so I encourage these people to remember their roots more, too.

Thanks to the Scottish festivals, we have a reminiscent touch of Viking heritage, too. For instance, see Up Helly Aa , the Shetland Islands festival in Scotland celebrating the Viking roots of the area. This is what I like to see, and I hope we get more of it, English and Welsh especially, in America.
